ABOUT A CATEGORY/RETAIL MANAGER: “Typical day” “What you’re getting into”
A Category Manager is an in-store expert in merchandising, product management, and sales of our portfolio of products on the beer side of the business. With an in-depth knowledge of the category, they drive the planograms (POGs), marketing, and promotions of the category’s products to make them visible, accessible, and appealing to the customer’s eyes.
A Category Manager directly contributes to the profitability of both Bernick’s and our customers by increasing the volume of products sold and improving the speed of which inventory turns within the category. As part of achieving the category goals, Managers assist and/or lead the selling in of resets, point of sale installations, and support special events. In addition, this role supervises the Merchandising/Relief Sales team.
Category Manager:
- Analyzes data and insights to determine industry and consumer trends
- Optimizes sales for a group of products by building relationships with vendors and customers
- Identifies and implements merchandising strategies to maximize product visibility
- Leads category resets and manages Point of Sale (POS) materials for locations
- Supervises Merchandising/Relief Sales team
- Supports special events and merchandising needs of customers
Strong Candidates:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management or similar field (preferred, but not required)
- 3 years of Category/Retail Management experience (preferred, but not required)
- Outstanding customer service and relationship building skills
- Sales and negotiation experience preferred
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential to success
- Possess the ability to manage multiple projects and remain highly organized
- Excellent PC skills, including strong knowledge of MS Office Suite
Basic Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid Driver’s License, driving record which meets Bernick’s standard
- Ability to regularly lift and move product weighing 50 lbs. (up to 165 lbs.)
HOURS: Full-time
- Monday-Friday, 7-8am - completion
- Hours may vary with the benefits and challenges that come with the beverage industry (occasional evenings/weekends depending on events)
