Description

Business Title:

Job Purpose:
- Efficiently and safely load and unload materials, ensuring smooth operation of receiving and shipping processes at BERNS GREENHOUSE & GARDEN CENTER INC. This role involves physical handling of various goods, operating machinery, and maintaining organization within the loading and unloading areas.

Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload trucks and other vehicles, utilizing appropriate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Verify incoming and outgoing shipments against packing slips, invoices, and orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Stage materials for loading and unloading, organizing the warehouse or yard space to facilitate efficient operations.
- Secure loads for transport, using straps, ropes, or other appropriate methods to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Inspect and maintain loading equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures during loading and unloading operations, promoting a safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse staff, and other personnel to coordinate loading and unloading activities.
- Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring proper documentation and inventory control.
- Assist with other warehouse duties as needed, such as stocking, picking, and packing.
- Keep the loading and unloading areas clean and organized, contributing to overall warehouse efficiency and safety.

Qualifications

Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience:
- Experience in a physically demanding role
- Experience working outdoors

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety procedures
