About the Job
BerQ RNG is hiring a full-time Plant Operator to operate and maintain its Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility. This role involves operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a landfill gas collection system and RNG processing equipment to ensure safety, compliance, maximum gas recovery, and equipment reliability. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently outdoors while adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Execute proper startup and shutdown procedures for RNG production systems, maintaining compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks on plant equipment, including troubleshooting and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime.
- Monitor RNG gas quality and assist with troubleshooting plant performance issues.
- Coordinate more complex equipment overhauls with outside vendors.
- Collaborate with the Operations and Engineering teams to optimize RNG production processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and implementing changes as needed.
- Liaise with the local natural gas utility and 3rd party O&M contractors, as required.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility.
- Share on-call responsibilities with the team and respond to after-hours emergencies, including nights and weekends, to maintain maximum plant uptime.
- Regulate and monitor wellhead pressure, vacuum levels, and header gas temperatures for optimal gas flow.
- Monitor, maintain and tune of automated LOCI landfill gas wellheads, checking for pressure, temperature, and gas composition (CH₄, CO₂, O₂), as required to maximize the methane recovery from the landfill while maintaining compliance.
- Inspect and maintain landfill gas collection infrastructure, down-well dewatering pumps, wellfield piping, and condensate management systems to prevent leaks and failures, and ensure optimal gas collection.
- Perform liquid level monitoring & pump maintenance on gas-liquid wells and sumps.
- Maintain landfill wellfield databases and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations, following established protocols to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of the facility.
- Monitor, operate, adjust and maintain the wellfield and facility, as required, to maximize gas production in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
- Comply with all federal, state, landfill, corporate and facility-specific health and safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure all permit & compliance documentation is accurately maintained.
- Maintain logs and prepare reports in accordance with prescribed standards.
- Maintain detailed logs of wellfield operations, including gas production data, equipment status and process changes.
- Maintain accurate records of wellfield and plant operations using daily logs and CMMS program, including production data, equipment status, monitoring and maintenance activities and spare parts inventory.
- Report process deviations, equipment malfunctions, and corrective actions.
- Ensure calibration of analytical equipment and maintain accurate record-keeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in operating and maintaining industrial equipment, preferably in landfill gas, biogas, or industrial gas processing.
- Technical certifications (Millwright, Genset Technician, Industrial Electrician, etc.) preferred but not required. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with compressors, pumps, PLCs, gas analyzers, and natural gas-fired Jenbacher reciprocating gensets for prime power.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) (e.g., Maintenance Connection, Maximo, Fiix, or other platforms) considered an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and SCADA systems required.
- Familiarity with process control systems and landfill gas wellfield operations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in an industrial setting.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors, share on-call rotation duties, and respond after hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
