What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Supervisor position at Berrien County?
DUTIES:
Performs complex clerical, financial and public contact duties based on a thorough knowledge of the traffic division.
Provides daily direction and assistance to other clerical employees.
Serves in the capacity of office supervisor in his/her absence.
Performs data entry, schedules court calendars and prepares correspondence.
Prepares and maintains case files.
Prepares and/or completes various templates, forms, records and reports for use by the Court.
Assures that departmental paperwork is processed accurately in a timely manner.
Reviews reports and documents; makes corrections as needed.
Assists with record retention and destruction as directed.
Accepts pleas in traffic civil infraction cases; assesses fines and costs as directed by the judges.
Receives and receipts payments of fines, costs and fees; balances funds and performs various bookkeeping duties.
Provides information to defendants, attorneys, law enforcement officers and court patrons.
Assists court patrons at the public or police counters and on the telephone; explains court policies, procedures, documents, and fees.
Trains departmental Court Clerk II employees and acts in the capacity of any departmental Court Clerk II in his/her absence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in business, office management, liberal arts or criminal justice and a minimum of one year of general clerical experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to obtain state certification as a Certified Electronic Recorder or Certified Electronic Operator.
Duties will require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, reaching, bending and prolonged sitting or standing based on specific assignments.
Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license throughout the course of employment.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including drug testing prior to employment.
A background check will be performed, and employees will be fingerprinted.
Subject to random alcohol and drug testing per the Court’s policy.
May be assigned to work at any Berrien County Trial Court location.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Some knowledge of court and legal procedures.
Ability to make decisions according to established procedures, policies and court rules.
Familiarity with various computer software programs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, effective working relationships with other employees and interact effectively with the public.
TYPING REQUIREMENT:
Must have a typing speed of 40 words per minute net. If you have not taken a typing test with Berrien County, please contact Personnel by phone or email to schedule one.
