JOB TITLE: Material Handler
FLSA: Non-exempt Hourly
DEPARTMENT: Inventory Control
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The Material Handler plays a crucial role in efficiently managing the flow of materials and parts throughout the Company. Responsibilities involve performing shipping and receiving transactions of inventoried and non-inventoried parts and materials in the ERP system with accuracy and according to Quality Control, Purchasing and Accounting standards. Administration of the material handing process and procedures will require attention to detail, maintaining proper inventory controls, oversight of unloading, loading, staging material activities, and on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Material Handling
- Capable of operating equipment as needed to perform LG 1 and 2 Material Handler responsibilities.
- Ensure material transactions includes proper labeling and material sign-outs are completed properly in the ERP system.
- Prioritize end of month duties to include scrap/recycling pickups, P.O. receiving completions, material sign-outs, and copper reconciliations.
- Maintains scrap reports for vendor accuracy to share with Accounting department monthly.
- Report and follow-up with maintenance on all equipment issues.
Inventory Control
- Verify all incoming materials match packing slips and purchase orders (P.O.).
- Notify Production team regarding changes to inventory discrepancies.
- Partner with Purchasing and Production regarding the Returned Material Authorizations (RMA) process and Non-conforming Material Requisitions (NCMR’s) which includes all in-house and vendor discrepancies.
- Generate ERP reports for management regarding inventory levels, stock movement, and discrepancies and suggest optimization strategies.
- Attend weekly Production meetings, if necessary.
- Notify Material Handlers on inventory cycle count audit locations that are to be performed daily, quarterly and annually.
- Maintains and leads proper labeling of materials received before placement in respective yard and storage areas.
- Ensure all product is being relocated properly to all locations.
Receiving
- Receive all incoming material (inventory and non-inventory) into the ERP system.
- Verify the quantity and quality of received goods. Report any issues to Purchasing and the Plant Manager.
- After material is received into the ERP system, forward all packing slips to Accounting.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Accounting to ensure P.O. receipts and pricing is accurate.
Shipping
- Use the ERP system/production schedule to look at future shipments.
- Communicate with relevant departments about potential shipping delays.
- Generate NORF (notice order ready for shipment) document and collaborate with Logistics Specialist on ready shipments.
- Verifying shipment material with customer orders to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure customer and order specific shipping guidelines are met. (ex- international crates, customer specific documents are packaged with shipment).
- Generate vendor, miscellaneous, and transfer order packing lists through ERP, generate shipping labels using the UPS System, coordinate with the Logistics Specialist on shipper details.
- Conduct final packaging inspections of outgoing goods to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Coordinate with the Logistic Specialist regarding schedule for pickups and deliveries.
- Forward all signed Bills of Lading and relevant shipping documentation to Logistics Specialist.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to keep needed shipping materials in stock (ex- pallets, boxes, misc. wood, shipping labels).
Truck Delivery Driver
- Drive trucks for customer deliveries/drop offs.
- Verify loads against shipping papers and deliver copies of receipts for loads picked up.
- Load and unload truck other than in customer’s plant. In customer’s plant, this operator will be responsible for the care of the truck.
- Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, water, etc.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, and tire chains.
- Present yourself professionally in front of customers.
- Maintain housekeeping of truck.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations when driving and also while on site at customers/vendors.
- Knowledge of properly securing a load per DOT regulations
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIEMENTS:
- 3 years of equivalent work experience in material handling, shipping and receiving.
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior delivery driver experience.
- Inventory control experience needed with knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safety program a plus.
- Manufacturing and business acumen is a plus.
- Must be able to lift fifty (50) plus pounds.
- Must be detailed oriented to ensure proper material identification, inventory counts, and stock levels are exact in the ERP system.
- Organizational and time management skills related to inventory and non-inventoried transactions in ERP system.
- Print Reading/Bill of Material knowledge.
- Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience.
- Capable of operating other plant machinery, radial arm saw, nail gun, etc.
- Proficient with scanners, cell phone, computers, Microsoft Office Suite of Products, advanced excel experience.
- Self-starter with the initiative and innovative solutions to solve problems and evolve the material handling team’s role in the process.
- Updated driver's license, clear driving record, must clear a background investigation, drug and alcohol test.
- Use of effective verbal and written communication skills both internally and externally.
