GENERAL DUTIES:   The School Social Worker assesses home, school, personal, and community factors that may affect a student's learning, school adjustment, and general well-being;  consults with teachers administrators, and other faculty/staff and parents regarding effective strategies for dealing with problems related to social, emotional, and academic needs; identifies and provides interventions for students and families that will assist in creating positive learning environments for students; develops resiliency strategies, programs and services that build self-esteem, nurture positive development, and help to bond students to the school community.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must possess a valid California Pupil Personnel Service credential; valid California Master’s Degree preferred; experience working with children (ages 4-14) preferred.  Must have knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations governing school systems and reporting rules to Child Protective Services; relationships between school sites and district, and between district and state; mediation and conflict resolution techniques; team building and group processes; strategies and methodologies applied in educational settings.  Must be able to sit for prolonged periods; work under minimal supervision accurately with attention to detail; understand and carry out oral and written instruction; interact positively with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds; learn new procedures; prioritize and appropriately schedule workload or tasks to meet established timelines; work independently.  Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively; use English in both written and verbal form effectively; bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.  Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity.  Must possess a valid California Driver’s License; tuberculin clearance.
