POSITION TITLE: HS Assistant Principal
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 day contract
Assistant Principal Overview:
Berryville High School is seeking an Assistant Principal that supports the school and district mission statements by providing instructional leadership and fostering a collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and student achievement. This role places a strong emphasis on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), instructional coaching, teacher development, and data-driven decision-making to enhance teaching and learning across all content areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
- Support the implementation of a rigorous and relevant curriculum aligned with state standards. (HQIM)
- Provide ongoing instructional coaching and feedback to teachers through observations, walk-throughs, and formal evaluations.(TESS)
- Facilitate professional development aligned with school goals, teacher needs, and current educational best practices.
- Collaborate with teachers and instructional teams to analyze student data and adjust instructional practices accordingly.
- Lead initiatives focused on improving instructional quality and student outcomes.
Professional Learning Communities (Collaborative Teams)
- Support the Principal in leading the ongoing improvement of effective PLC structures.
- Provide training and support to teacher teams.
- Guide teams in using student data to drive decision-making, curriculum alignment, and differentiated instruction.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of PLC work and its impact on student achievement.
- Promote a collaborative culture of inquiry, reflection, and shared responsibility for student learning.
School Culture
- Promote a positive school culture that values high expectations, equity, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Model and enforce high standards for student behavior and staff professionalism.
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families to support a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Support and be engaged in the building Guiding Coalition.
Daily Operations
- Enforce student discipline, manage student behaviors, and support teachers with classroom management.
- Assist the Principal with daily school operations including scheduling, safety procedures, and monitoring of students.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of instructional staff.
- Ensure compliance with school, district, and state policies and procedures.
- Support the development and implementation of school improvement plans.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
- Valid administrative certification as required by the state of Arkansas.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience.
- Professional learning focused on the PLC process (PLC Institute, RTI, Assessment Training)
- Deep understanding of curriculum design, formative assessment, and instructional best practices.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Science of Reading Assessor (Must complete within first year.)
