POSITION TITLE: 7th Grade Literacy Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 day contract: 178 instructional days, 2 parent/teacher conference days, and 10 days of professional development with benefits provided according to the district salary schedule.
JOB SUMMARY:
Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of good literature of all types; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications that include narrative, argumentative, and persuasive; and that discovers and develops special talents of students in the field of Literacy using the Arkansas standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, and reading to middle school students.
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Assess the achievement of students on a regular basis.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other record keeping activities as necessary.
- Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide and orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintain a high level of expectations for students and encourage students to use higher order thinking skills on a regular basis.
- Administer testing in accordance with state testing requirements.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Remain current on the best instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
