POSITION TITLE: Head Volleyball Coach & Middle School PE Teacher; 2nd Sport TBD

FLSA:  Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:   Must hold proper certification

REPORTS TO:   Principal and/or other Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  220 day contract

POSITION OVERVIEW: Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in the assigned sport. Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Participate in curriculum review and design.

2. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.

3. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.

4. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

5. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

6. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading).

7. Effectively implement district initiatives.

8. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
5. Serve on committees as assigned.
6. Remain current on instructional practices in education.  (e.g. instructional technology)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned. 

2. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.

3. Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
4. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
5. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
6. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
7. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program.
8. Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
9. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
10. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
11. The Principal or his/her designee may assign other duties and accountabilities limited to those consistent with the applicable job function and pay grade.

3. Model proper dress, language, demeanor and student/teacher relations.
