JOB TITLE: Certified Athletic Trainer
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
Primary Purpose
Provide medical coverage for the Berryville High School and Middle School athletic programs.
The Certified Athletic Trainer will serve on a 240-day, 12-month contract and will be eligible for Arkansas Teachers’ Retirement and benefits (medical, dental, and vision).
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training
- Must have current or be eligible for BOC certification prior to start date.
- Must have current or be eligible for Arkansas state athletic training license prior to start date.
- Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate
- Clear and valid Arkansas driver’s license
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
The athletic trainer will practice said profession within the parameters of the Arkansas Athletic Training Practice Act and follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs. The athletic trainer’s duties, enumerated in this document, should not be considered all inclusive. The Athletic Director, as necessary, shall modify duties. The athletic trainer will be present at home athletic events and practices and shall attend other post-season and away contests as decided by the Athletic Director.
- Continue to improve an effective athletic training program for Berryville School District’s high school and middle school athletics.
- Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for student athletes.
- Provide timely and appropriate referrals for continuation of care for student athletes.
- Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season.
- Develop and revise policies & procedures and comprehensive emergency action plans related to emergent and non-emergent scenarios within the athletics department.
- Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during athletic seasons.
- Maintain a line of communication with the athlete’s physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
- Maintain open communication with parents on the care & treatment of their student-athlete.
- Establish a working relationship with BMS and BHS nursing staff.
- File all district required reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
- Maintain a daily treatment log.
- Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory.
- Equip each team with appropriate medical supplies.
- Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
- Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
