Job Title: R&D Technician
Team: Bert Thin Films, LLC is an advanced materials startup that is developing new materials to disrupt the existing value chain in solar manufacturing. The technical team at Bert Thin Films has developed a new material for the solar manufacturing industry and is testing these materials with the industry. This is a very agile technical group that is looking for an individual who is looking to learn and adapt.
Position Description: Bert Thin Films, LLC is seeking an R&D Technician to join the technical team to assist with optimizing the materials for the industry. The individual will work closely with the engineers and scientists to plan and execute experiments of the materials on solar cells.
Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed. Some travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- blend, formulate and process materials into thick film pastes;
- maintain batch sheets for quality assurance;
- measure products using standard equipment;
- print pastes onto solar cells using a screen printer;
- process solar cells using standard equipment;
- measure solar cell performance;
- maintain proper safety procedures including PPE and proper disposal of chemicals;
- collaborate within the technical team and communicate results and ideas verbally;
- identify and pick up slack from other technical team members as needed;
- identify opportunities to improve process flow and yield;
- become involved with field trials and startup of operations;
- partner with key stakeholders to improve product quality and price; and
- assisting with design of experiments and carrying out the experiments.
Skills needed:
- Minimum BS degree in chemistry or equivalent and 5 years of related experience, or MS and 3 years related experience;
- Able to work effectively within a competent technical team;
- Hands-on experience material synthesis/formulation, or related fields;
- Experience with running experiments;
- Able to identify, analyze and solve complex problems quickly using appropriate approaches;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work with internal and external individuals through various tools.

Pay: $14.00 - $28.00 per hour
