Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and executing activities essential to trimming and casing-in book blocks safely and correctly. Key duties include reviewing and interpreting job orders, configuring the machine according to the job specifications, and verifying the quality of materials used.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and interpreting job orders.
- Entering pertinent job order details into the casing-in unit computer prior to commencing the job.
- Configuring the machine according to the job specifications.
- Ensuring high-quality materials are used, including evaluating signature integrity, book block squareness, proper back and front panels, and adhering to head, tailband, and other requirements.
- Feeding the machine with cases, crushing paper and glue as necessary, utilizing an electric pallet truck to transport materials efficiently.
- Completing all necessary documentation, production reports, and machine logbooks to ensure accuracy.
- Inspecting work quality, including inspecting glue coverage, jacket quality, square-in case, crease alignment, correct case fit, and ensuring stackers are correctly positioned to avoid damage to cased-in and/or jacketed books.
- Directing teams to designated workstations, including setup and teardown procedures, carton unit setup, excess component count, equipment cleaning, and adequate handwork station allocation when the machine is offline.
- Immediately informing the supervisor of crew member safety incidents, faulty machinery, quality concerns, questionable job order details, and any failure to meet quantity targets.
Other key responsibilities include lubricating and maintaining equipment weekly, collaborating with maintenance personnel during regular upkeep, performing routine maintenance tasks during scheduled PMs, and ensuring thorough machine and workspace tidiness.
Preferred qualifications include 2 years of experience in binding and a high school diploma or equivalent. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
