Job Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician

Purpose of the Job: Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. Count, measure, mix, label, and record quantities, amounts, and dosages of medications according to prescription orders

Tasks

1.Organize in shelves the inventory stock delivered on a daily basis.

2.Review wholesaler invoices to verify that all invoiced items are actually received.

3.Upload inventory cost information in the pharmacy management database.

4.As assigned by the supervisor, enter the financial information necessary to ensure proper billing/ cost tracking of each prescription filled.

5.As assigned by the supervisor, enter the data necessary to fill prescriptions in the pharmacy management database.

6.Code or charge each prescription filled to the correct payer.

7.Accept telephone requests for prescriptions refills and get them ready for processing. Handle other telephone calls/messages for the pharmacy.

8.Help the pharmacists and/or dispensing physicians with prescription-filling tasks, e.g., counting tablets and capsules, labeling bottles, etc.

9.Hand the patient (or his or her representative) filled prescriptions.

10.Inquire about the patient’s (or his or her representative) need or desire for additional education/counseling.

11.Obtain the signature of the patient (or his or her representative) who is receiving the filled prescriptions.

12.Process prescription payment slips to ensure that patient co-payments are accurately and effectively collected. (This requires close collaboration with front desk and financial management personnel.)

13.As assigned by the supervisor, order inventory and other supplies from the pharmacy wholesaler.

14.As assigned by the supervisor, report to the Chief Financial Officer the number of prescriptions filled and the total wholesaler order amount on a daily basis.

15.As assigned by the supervisor, print computer reports.

16.As assigned by the supervisor, provide treatment adherence services, e.g., pre-filling weekly medication boxes, observing patients on "directly observed therapy", etc.

17.Periodically check the inventory stock for outdated items.

18.Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.

19.The supervisor may assign other tasks from time to time.
