JOB TITLE / DESCRIPTION: Patient Care Representative (PCR)
BASIC JOB PURPOSE: Perform important and public relations in person and on the telephone by greeting each patient. Maintain a professional atmosphere at all times while promoting smooth patient flow. Inform patients of their responsibility regarding financial obligations.
JOB STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the COO

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
- Responsible for insurance verification, demographic information and specific billing information directly from patient, by verifying and updating all insurance and demographic information for all patients every time they come into the center; scans all insurance and identification into EMR systems correctly;
- Make sure all patients are properly signed-in; patient's identification is verified.
- Informs patients of income verification process and account status;
- Responsible for disseminating information to clients and visitors regarding services of the center and how to utilize these services;
- Set up patients accounts correctly;
- Must be cordial at all times, and greet patients with a smile;
- Collaborates with clinical staff to forward messages for prescription refill requests from patients and pharmacists and refer them to the appropriate clinical staff member;
- Implement check-in and check-out procedures correctly;
- Responds to payment plans with patients for past and present balances. Post payments to patient accounts;
- Collects all co-pays and past due balances at time of visit.
- Ability to use EMR systems appropriately;
- Count receipts and balance at the end of the day. Make sure cash drawer balances daily;
- Maintains a clean work area appearance;
- Monitors patient and visitor traffic during clinic hours;
- Performs all other duties relevant to the functioning of the organization as directed;
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and guidelines;
- Reviews patient accounts for past due balances and / or credits at time of visit.
- Takes an active role in quality improvement efforts to serve as a participating member of BCRHA QI team.
- Serves as an integral part of provider(s) care team to assist with pre-visit planning, care management and other care team duties as assigned.
- The employee will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the CEO (e.g. health fairs, workshops, seminars, meetings, etc.).

EDUCATION and /or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED. Minimum one (1) year experience in a Medical office practice setting.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate with patients and family members of various education, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics, accounting and computations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to input data into the computer for compiling information, basic office equipment knowledge, and proficient in the use of a ten (10) key calculator. Familiarity with effective use of patient accounting system.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
