JOB TITLE : BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT : Exceptional Children
GRADE : 58
FLSA : Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO : Behavior Support Liaison / Exceptional Children Director
SUPERVISES : None
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 10 Months
QUALIFICATIONS : Associate's Degree or other method of meeting the qualifications required under "No Child Left Behind."

- Instructional Assistance :
Cooperates in developing procedures for the classroom
Assists Behavior Liaison and classroom teacher in the preparation of materialsMaintains awareness of goals and objectives of supervising teacher with PRC 29 requirementsAssists in implementing the planned program and social skills lesson plansProvides information to teacher(s) concerning program evaluation and facilitates activities to improve effectiveness of the total school programCarries out student supervisory duties in a prompt and responsible manner to ensure a safe and healthful environmentClerical / Technical AssistanceCollects and records PRC 29 data according to established procedures
Maintains EC files and records in accordance with applicable rules, laws, and regulationsPerforms clerical duties as assignedDemonstrates technical skill in operating equipmentAssembles materials to maximize their useGeneral Classroom AssistanceExhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff and administrators
Represents the needs of school and children to parents and the community in a positiveMannerConducts self as a positive role model in the school and communityAssists students with understanding, interpreting and adhering to laws, rules, and regulationsShares the responsibility for school cleanliness and neatnessAssists in developing good housekeeping skills and regard for the environment both inside and outside the classroomPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisorBehavior Support Assistant will maintain a notebook that will be monitored by the Behavior Support Liaison. It will contain the following :Weekly behavior logs detailing observation of discrete trials, rate of change and transference
Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP's) with progress notesSocial Skills lesson plansIncident reports and office referralsLog of communication with school staff, family, and outside agenciesPHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Behavior Support Assistant job classification for Bertie County Schools.
Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
