Job Summary:
The Emergency Room Nurse is responsible for providing rapid and effective medical care to patients experiencing critical injuries, illnesses, or trauma in the Emergency Room (ER) setting. This crucial role involves assessing patients, administering treatments, coordinating with a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring the delivery of quality and compassionate care.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Conduct patient assessments upon arrival, prioritizing care based on triage protocols.
2. Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as ordered by physicians.
3. Monitor vital signs, observe changes in the patient's condition, and initiate appropriate interventions.
4. Collaborate with the healthcare team to establish and execute a comprehensive care plan.
5. Perform emergency procedures, including wound care, splinting, and trauma resuscitation.
6. Document patient care activities timely and accurately.
7. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
8. Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families.
9. Participate in disaster preparedness and response activities.
10. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a safe environment.
11. Assist in the triage and coordination of patient transfers to other units or facilities when necessary.
12. Stay updated with emergency care protocols, attending continuing education programs as needed.
13. Represent the ER team in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
14. Adhere to professional standards, hospital policies, and legal regulations.
15. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and excellence within the ER department.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of work.
2. Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care setting.
3. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
4. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
5. Ability to stay calm and composed under pressure.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Proficiency in using medical equipment and technology.
8. Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
9. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
10. Knowledge of emergency care and trauma resuscitation protocols.
11. Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
12. Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
13. Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
