Job Title: Custodian { 6 hours & 8 hours}

Reports To: Principal/Director/Supervisor

Qualifications:

1. Should be physically capable of performing duties required by the position.
2. Should possess sufficient ability to carry out duties in an intelligent manner.
3. Should have a high school education or GED.
4. Shall present a neat, clean appearance.
5. Should be orderly and willing to learn new techniques of maintenance & housekeeping.
6. Should be dependable, able to get along with people - teachers, principals, and patrons.
7. Must be able to plan and organize his/her work in the proper housekeeping of the assigned physical plant or building.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
2. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
3. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are set for building egress and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
4. Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.

5. Sweeps or vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture or as directed by immediate supervisor.
6. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
7. Scrub s, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
8. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
9. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
10. Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles and filters as needed.
11. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
12. Cleans all chalkboards, whiteboards and instructional writing surfaces at least once a day or as specified or directed by immediate supervisor.
13. Makes such minor building/furniture repairs as necessary.
14. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian or principal.
15. Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing (subject to school assignment).
16. Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
17. Remains on school premises during work hours.
18. Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each school day as designated by the principal, and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
19. Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand and requisitions such needed replacements from the principal or head custodian.
20. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repairs.
21. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
22. Completes all daily reports, checklists and addressing the upkeep of the facility.

23. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
24. Sanitize daily, Athletic facility, i.e., coach's office's, showers, locker rooms, weight room, restrooms.
25. Maintain lawn care including baseball & softball fields, press box, ticket booth, i.e., weed eating, edging, cutting grass.
26. Clean and sanitize concession stand & restrooms.
27. Maintain lawn equipment & any other maintenance machinery.
28. Ensure all maintenance equipment is secured at the end of each school day.
29. Report any maintenance repairs or requirements to the maintenance department.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Salary in adherence and compliance with approved salary schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
