Position Summary:
The Service Technician position at Best Equipment is responsible for performing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks on municipal and contractor environmental equipment. This role requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong technical and mechanical aptitude. The Service Technician is expected to work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. Excellent problem-solving skills, a customer-focused attitude, and a strong ability to adhere to safety protocols are key to success in this position.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- The work performed is similar to that of an aircraft or heavy equipment technician.
- Perform repair and maintenance tasks on public works and municipal equipment, including troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Conduct welding and fabrication work as a key responsibility to ensure equipment functionality and durability.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in 12-volt electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components.
- Read and interpret complex wiring schematics and electrical diagrams to facilitate efficient troubleshooting and repair.
- Ensure that all work is performed to meet safety and operational standards, including adhering to shop safety guidelines and participating in monthly safety meetings.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in troubleshooting and repair of 12-volt electrical systems.
- Proficiency in hydraulic systems, including electric-over-hydraulic and air-over-hydraulic systems.
- Ability to perform precise and high-quality welding and fabrication work.
- Journeyman Level certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and complex wiring schematics.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatic systems and mechanical principles.
- High mechanical aptitude with the ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
- Class 7/8 chassis experience is a plus.
- Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
To be successful in this role, you may need to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders or equipment. Vision and hearing must be sufficient to identify equipment issues and ensure safety. The position involves exposure to loud noise, odors, dust, heat, cold, and vibration. You may have to tolerate temperature fluctuations and work in various weather conditions.
