EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST/JOB COACH

REQUIREMENTS:
Prefer experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Possession of a bachelors degree in area of special education, social work, psychology, education, other.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, have access to a reliable, insured means of transportation for job-related use.
Clean criminal background and Macomb Community Mental Health Office of Recipient Rights history.

Understand and maintain HIPAA Compliance
Good verbal, written, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, dependable, flexible, punctual, and professional.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or move at least 25 pounds and regularly walk, stand, bend, and/or reach for periods of time.
Ability to work in a variety of situations with integrity, a positive attitude, and composure during emergency situations with an ability to follow agency procedures and demonstrate appropriate role modeling behaviors.
Attend all required trainings (Recipient Rights, Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, Disability Awareness, Supported Employment, Trauma Informed, etc.)
Cooperate and collaborate with colleagues from various departments.
Complete data collection and written documentation in accordance with established agency procedures and timelines.

Email address and SMART phone for communication and required applications.
Cooperate with the payroll department in preparing all paperwork and when possible maintain Direct Deposit/ACH bank account or card.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of a EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST/JOB COACH (JC) are listed below. Each will be trained and each task will be outlined in the Individual Plan of Employment (IPE) for the person with a disability you are assisting.

SERVICE PROVIDER (SP)/JOB COACH (JC) will be assigned a caseload of clients to assure quality services are given within a certain timeframe. You will also be in the community teaching essential work skills with an individual or group of persons with disabilities.

Support and supervise job coaches with strategies and supports for each individual client.
Emphasis will be on learning about employment within the community.
Evaluate and train an individual focusing on their strengths and weaknesses in order to build the vocational skills needed for employment.
Provide hands-on training to improve vocational skills where needed.
Produce record keeping of all details of the evaluation and the training provided.
Maintain the safety and welfare of the individual being assessed during the community based vocational assessment.

Provide instruction and support for individual or small groups of individuals with disabilities in the BEST Office, in areas of employment, recreation, independent living, and education.

Demonstrate appropriate role modeling behaviors to promote the development of correct work habits and attitudes.
Provide support in organizing and administering all phases of instruction in the Skills Program.
Cooperate with all safety and building requirements while assisting the individuals with whom you will work.

This position may require transportation of individuals.

  • The position is full time - helping persons with disabilities in the community. Hours and days match our clients schedules. Normal work hours are usually somewhere between 8am and 6pm, Monday through Fri. But there may be limited weekends or early morning/later evenings. You will need reliable transportation, automobile registration and updated automobile insurance. You will need to be able to travel all throughout Macomb County - from Warren/Eastpointe area to Romeo/Armada area - depending on where the client is located. You also may need to transport clients in your car. The position is to support our clients learn essential work skills. You will assess them on attendance, quality, pacing, etc. You will be trained and supported by our Specialists.
