Location: Kanab, Utah
Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $65,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits.
Interview Dates: Manager interviews will occur the week of May 12th (recruiter phone screens will occur prior to a manager interview).
Position Summary: The Landscaping Manager oversees maintenance of landscaped areas, management of natural areas, a compost program utilizing waste produced throughout the Sanctuary, year-round greenhouse and nursery growing operations, and management of ecosystem health and invasive species mitigation throughout the Best Friends Sanctuary.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Manages, directs, and leads staff in completing necessary work of the department and motivates staff to achieve peak productivity and maintain consistently high standards. Develops, manages, and directs systems and processes for department functions.
Develops and manages the annual operating budget for the department in coordination with the Senior Manager Canyon Operations. Implements cost savings measures where possible.
Coordinates with Senior Manager Canyon Operations, Directors, and Project Managers on capital related items specific to Landscaping.
Oversees staff development, hiring, training, & retention. Performs annual staff performance evaluations and assists staff in development of their annual performance goals.
Coordinates natural resource management to ensure proper stewardship of the canyon and as directed by the Senior Manager Canyon Operations.
Keeps abreast of current research and industry standards, updating operations accordingly.
Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.
Skills and Experience:
Must be personally committed to the Mission and Core Values of the Best Friends Animal Society.
A minimum of three years of managerial or leadership work experience is required, including experience in staff development and performance management.
A certificate for Landscape Management through the National Association of Landscape Professionals certification program is preferred.
Sensitivity to environmental stewardship and industry best practices.
Prior experience in a client facing role is strongly desired.
Strong analytical skills and ability to establish business and financial justifications for department initiatives.
Must engage the Landscape Department with the larger organization in hosting volunteers, doing tours for donors and visitors, and participating in organizational events as needed.
High level of interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly and effectively, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
Work requires continual attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple competing demands often concurrently.
Resourceful, proactive and maintain a positive attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers constructively, enthusiastically, and collaboratively.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with shelter software/animal management software, or desire to learn.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity daily, including, but not limited to: climbing, lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
Extended periods of time working on a computer and sitting with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance.
Exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
Travel could be up to 10%.
