What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreational Gymnastics Coach position at Best Gymnastics?
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our mission statement is to Build the Best Athletes. The primary focus of a Best Gymnastics Coach is to provide a safe atmosphere for children to grow and develop within the sport, while learning technically sound skill progressions on each event. A coach should be able to encourage, motivate, and mentor children of all ages. Gymnastics coaches are professionals and should seek to further their knowledge of the techniques, skills, and rules of the sport. Best Gymnastics coaches are responsible for the supervision of all athletes enrolled in their classes and should be able to properly follow and implement lesson plans in an efficient manner.
A coach usually performs the following tasks on a daily basis:
- Communicates effectively with athletes and their families regarding their progress and development in the sport.
- Correct set-up of the mats within the facility and proper care of all athletic equipment.
- Completes administrative duties such as taking roll and skill updates for classes.
- Coaches approximately 2-6 classes per day ranging from 45 minutes to 1 hour in duration each. A coach should be able to utilize technically sound, safe skill progressions, which are detailed in the lesson plans.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Capability to work within a team and encourage team building
- Excellent communication skills with both parents and athletes
- Capacity to learn, understand, and follow lesson plans
- Strong interpersonal relationships with fellow employees
- Ability to mentor and motivate athletes
- Be able to stand for 4-6 hours per day while coaching
- Physical ability to lift and spot gymnasts anywhere from 20-100 lbs
EDUCATION:
The required qualifications and certifications for a Best Gymnastics Coach is dependent upon the levels they are interested in coaching and their desire for growth within the company. Prior experience in athletics either as a coach or athlete is highly encouraged. A passion and love for mentoring and motivating children is paramount. While it is not required, certification or specialization within the areas of teaching and/or sports management would be beneficial.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 25 per week
