Overview
Hotels are multi-million dollar investments and must be cared for and maintained accordingly. As a maintenance engineer, you are responsible for repairing and maintaining the hotel's physical plant by ensuring quality, cleanliness, guest satisfaction, safety, and security. A major part of your job is to be proactive in identifying potential issues and alerting the General Manager so that a proper action plan can be put in place. You should be able to maintain all aspects of the common areas and guest room areas to minimize the use of outside labor to maintain the hotel. Working in a hotel requires that you be available to work every day of the year, as the hotel never closes. Maintenance issues arise at all hours of the day and night so it is necessary that you be available for phone calls and emergency on-site assistance at all hours.
Physical Requirements:
This position demands good physical and mental health. To do this work you need to be fit, with plenty of stamina, be prepared to work hard - often on your own, and you may have to work quickly when a room is needed for a guest who is waiting. As a maintenance engineer will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, climb, push, pull, and fold. You must work a flexible schedule, and be capable of performing tasks that require repetitive motions. General dexterity for firm and simple grasping of objects is necessary. You must be able to move continuously during work hours, stand for eight (8) hour periods, and must be able to lift and/or carry 50 pounds from the ground to above head level. You must report to work wearing a clean uniform with a nametag and proper close-toed work shoes.
Major Duties
- Perform routine maintenance throughout the property, including painting, carpet/floor cleaning, etc.
- Perform adjustments on HVAC systems, including the repair and/or replacement of air conditioning units.
- Perform repairs and/or replacements of room furniture, fixtures, and equipment including television sets, light fixtures, carpet cleaning, etc.
- Clean and maintain the hotel’s exterior areas, including the swimming pool, parking lot, grass, flowers, tree and shrub trimming, and all other aspects pertaining to the hotel’s overall landscape and curb appeal.
- Protect Company assets by properly securing tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Research to find the most cost-effective solution to maintenance issues.
- Perform work duties in accordance with company safety and security policies and procedures, as well as in accordance with OSHA, HazCom, and BBP regulations and other applicable state and local regulations.
- Report requests for major repairs to the General Manager in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Assist the General Manager in determining capital requests and monitoring existing contracts for capital projects.
- Prevents loss or damage to hotel supplies, the hotel’s property, and the guest’s property. Never leave a guest room open.
- Ability to determine whether a guest is in the room so it can be worked in when it is unoccupied. Announce presence and enter guest rooms in accordance with company policies.
- Immediately returns all lost and found items to the Head Housekeeper.
- Reports all potential safety hazards to GM and actively participates in safety meetings.
- Assist other hotel departments as necessary.
- Always represent the hotel in a positive manner; SMILE.
