Position Summary:
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations at the Best Western Antlers, including staff management, guest satisfaction, financial performance, and property standards. This leadership role serves as the face of the hotel and represents the brand, the management company, and the ownership group. The GM provides strategic direction and hands-on management to ensure smooth operations, a strong service culture, and the achievement of both short- and long-term business goals.
This role works in close partnership with the Vice President of Operations to develop and implement strategies that drive profitability, improve guest experiences, and promote a positive team environment. The General Manager will lead all departments, support capital planning, monitor financial performance, and uphold compliance with brand and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
The General Manager oversees all aspects of daily hotel operations as outlined in the organizational structure.
Regular meetings with department heads are conducted to ensure alignment, accountability, and team communication.
The GM ensures compliance with all standard operating procedures, brand service standards, safety protocols, and internal policies.
The position requires leadership in areas such as customer service, maintenance, sales, capital projects, and overall property upkeep.
The General Manager handles guest complaints professionally and guides the team through appropriate service recovery procedures.
This role includes helping develop and meet the hotel’s annual operating budget, marketing plan, and capital expenditures.
The GM is responsible for monitoring financial performance, meeting revenue targets, and controlling costs while maintaining service excellence.
Decisions are consistently made in the best interest of the property, the guests, the team, and the management company.
Daily business reports are reviewed to identify trends and make timely strategic decisions.
Monthly forecasting and financial planning for Rooms, F&B, Admin, and Maintenance are completed accurately and on schedule.
The GM drives revenue by overseeing pricing strategies, yield management, and implementing creative sales practices.
Monthly financial reports are prepared for ownership, along with performance insights and action plans.
The General Manager is also involved in procurement and vendor selection, ensuring quality, compliance, and cost efficiency.
Key hiring decisions are made in collaboration with the VP of Operations, ensuring top talent is selected for leadership positions.
All hotel departments report directly to the GM, who supports daily operations, resolves challenges, and encourages continuous improvement.
The Executive Team is developed and mentored with a focus on succession planning and long-term growth.
The GM takes personal ownership of guest complaints and supports department leaders in resolving service issues.
Strong leadership is demonstrated through team development, clear communication, accountability, and motivation.
Business planning, audits, and legal compliance—including OSHA, fire safety, and labor laws—are key parts of the role.
The GM also partners with the sales team to support client relationships and participate in new business development when necessary.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in Hotel or Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in the hospitality industry is required.
At least 5 years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a branded hotel environment is strongly preferred.
