The Senior Process Engineer evaluates, troubleshoots, and leads process improvement activities under limited supervision. The position is responsible for understanding and solving a variety of technical challenges ranging from simple to elevated complexity with SCN BestCo proprietary technology, confectionary equipment, and the cGMP quality management system through equipment, process, and product design. The Senior Process Engineer provides process engineering support and leadership to other functions including product development, quality, and engineering teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in GEMBA and support improvements in yields, cycle times, quality, and changeovers.
- Supplement manufacturing management in day-to-day support and updates of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assume a leadership role in the identification and resolution of trends with manufacturing issues. Utilize continuous improvement projects and breakthrough teams as needed.
- Lead and support process development trials, scale-up trials, and verifications / validations. Maintain a solid understanding of the process, products, and history for respective lines.
- Proactively initiate updates to batch records, work instructions, cleaning processes, and standard operation procedures (SOPs) to optimize and improve cGMP value.
- Define user requirements and conduct Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ) on equipment for capital projects, and support process improvements with engineering and manufacturing teams while providing regular project updates to executive leadership.
- Maintain a solid understanding of general regulatory requirements, product requirements, and Title 21 CFR Parts 110, 210 and 211. Mentor other engineers on these requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers with minimal guidance and balance customer unique requests with true process capability.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the impact of equipment, process, and material changes on their respective lines. Weigh cost & value of actions with respect to the impact to SCN BestCo's full value stream.
- Provide impact assessments and root cause analyses in the manufacturing deviation investigation process.
- Obtain data, perform statistical analyses, and write process control reports. Provide guidance to other process engineers as needed on continue process verification (CPV) reports.
- Support the selection, onboarding and daily task direction of co-op students and interns during their work periods.
- Provide backup support to process engineering management as directed.
- Support management with identifying mentoring opportunities to create team redundancy & backfill ability.
