Job description
Bestway South—a lumber manufacturing facility in Stony Point, NC—is hiring a Diesel Shop Manager to manage and operate its on-site diesel garage. This position is a hands-on job with many responsibilities. The Diesel Shop Manager will lead a team maintaining a fleet of trucks, trailers, and forklifts.
This position requires excellent technical, leadership, and communication skills.
Responsibilities and Duties of a Diesel Shop Manager
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of a diesel shop, scheduling projects, and delegating to employees.
- Hiring, reviewing, teaching, and training other mechanics.
- Maintaining a fleet of diesel forklifts, from PM to full engine rebuilds.
- Maintaining a fleet of Class 8 trucks and flatbed trailers From PM’s to in depth Diagnostics, and other major projects.
- Maintaining gas engines (passenger vehicles, small engines, etc.).
- Maintaining other production equipment, including servicing, repair (welding), and other work, as necessary.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors; ordering parts as needed.
- Performing inspections and road tests of completed repairs to ensure quality of repair and suitability of vehicle for return to service.
- Completing detailed PM Inspections and other paperwork.
- Maintaining brakes, wheels/tires, air, and hydraulic systems.
- Using electronic testing equipment such as multi meters, load testers, and diagnostic tools for both Heavy duty and passenger vehicles.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of equipment along with necessary training.
- Performing all duties in a safe manner.
- Communicating with management on all necessary matters and repairs.
- Collaborating closely with other mechanics on projects.
- Maintaining a professional manner and a neat, orderly working area.
- Certifications preferred: ASE, brake certification, A/C etc.
- Operating cutting and welding equipment a plus.
- NC Inspection certification is required.
Other Responsibilities of a Diesel Shop Manager Include:
- Maintaining accurate work orders documenting repairs and parts used.
- Maintain all shop tools and equipment to OSHA safety standards.
- Control shop inventory for parts and consumable goods.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision; an initiative-taker.
- Ability to work flexible schedules when needed.
- Clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Must own tools necessary to complete the requirements of the position.
Qualifications and Skills of a Diesel Shop Manager:
Required Experience:
- Management: 5 years of experience
- Diesel Mechanic: 3 years of experience.
- Forklift Mechanic: 3 years of experience.
- Welding/Fabrication: Proficiency preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
