Overview of the Platform Engineer
The Platform Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining our cloud infrastructure, including the tools used for deployment, operation, monitoring / alerting, and troubleshooting of infrastructure and related services. The role is heavily focused on AWS and as such we expect a strong working knowledge of common AWS services, infrastructure components, and networking concepts. The Platform Engineer will be a member of a small team and while the focus will be Platform Engineering / SRE tasks, they will be asked to participate in other operational & project-based work and will be required to assist with a wide variety of technologies as needed.
This position is a hybrid position based out of our Cary, NC office and requires being in the office at least 3 days per week. Participation in the on-call rotation is required, and evening / weekend work may be required occasionally.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Platform Engineer
- Leverage native AWS services and custom tooling to design scalable, resilient, infrastructure.
- Build & deploy infrastructure as code using Terraform and Python.
- Manage CI / CD using GitLab.
- Modernize existing cloud infrastructure by utilizing containers and serverless technology.
- Assist with problem investigation and resolution, with a focus on root cause.
- Design highly available infrastructure with a focus on proactive monitoring and preventative maintenance.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical infrastructure.
