What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician position at Betances Health Center?
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct preliminary eye examinations by gathering patient medical history, measuring visual acuity, performing lensometry, autorefraction/keratometry, pupils, extraocular motilities, confrontational visual fields, and intraocular pressure, and performing other diagnostic tests, such as color vision and stereopsis testing, as directed by the optometrist.
- Perform a variety of diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, and ocular coherence tomography (OCT), as directed by the optometrist and obtain high quality images/test results and correctly upload them to the patient’s chart in the electronic health records (EHR). Troubleshoot errors with equipment or patient positioning as they arise.
- Ensure all equipment and instruments are properly cleaned, maintained, calibrated, and sterilized according to established protocols.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices, including contact lens hygiene, and the importance of regular eye examinations in maintaining overall eye health.
- Accurately record patient information, examination results, and other pertinent data in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Provide administrative support such as scheduling appointments, managing incoming and outgoing referrals, patient correspondence, checking and maintaining drug and supply logs, updating EHR and equipment guides, and assisting with creation of patient education materials, and other projects as needed.
- Collaborate with optometrist during eye examinations, providing support and assistance as required.
- Adhere to all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
