Position: Program Advocate
Accountability: Reports to the Director of Transitional Housing.
Classification: Part-time employment around 20 hrs. per week.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm, with flexibility for weekends or afternoons depending on scheduled events and opportunities.
Pay: $15 per hour
Positional Summary
The Program Advocate provides direct support and assistance to residents and families in a transitional housing program for survivors of domestic abuse. This role requires a commitment to trauma-informed care, working with both adults and children to foster a safe and empowering environment. The Advocate also assists with apartments preparation tasks, including moving furniture, light cleaning, and other preparations before and after residents move in or out.
Qualifications:
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize with individuals who have experienced trauma.
· Understanding of trauma-informed care principles or willingness to learn.
· Ability to work with both adults and children in a supportive capacity.
· Knowledge of community resources is preferred.
· Strong organization skills and ability to work independently as a self-starter.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and basic data entry.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a slow or fast paced environment.
· Ability to receive direction and work as part of a team.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, even under stressful circumstances.
Responsibilities:
· Support the mission of Women’s Resource Center/Bethany Apartments
· Provide a welcoming and supportive presence for residents and children.
· Assist residents in needs assigned by the Director of Case Manager.
· Perform clerical and administrative duties, including data entry and basic office management.
· Perform basic cleaning duties in common areas.
· Assist in apartment preparation before and after residents move in or out.
· Assist in maintaining compliance with grant requirements and program policies.
· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· At least three (3) years of professional experience, preferably in social services, advocacy, or related fields.
· Associates Degree or higher preferred.
· Experience working with vulnerable populations, including survivors of domestic violence, is desirable.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed care.
· Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work with diverse populations and foster a positive, inclusive environment.
· Flexibility, adaptability, and a strong sense of accountability.
· Ability to receive direction, feedback, and positive criticism in order to improve and grow.
Physical/Mental Requirements
· Ability to lift, care, and move household items, including furniture, at times.
· Capability to perform light maintenance tasks, such as painting walls or cleaning.
· Ability to navigate stairs and perform physical tasks related to apartment preparation.
· Strong emotional regulation skills, including the ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations.
· Ability to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
· Ability to work in an environment where the presence of trauma is prevalent.
