Academic Support Advisor
POSITION: The Student Success Center at Bethany College invites applications for an academic support advisor with a particular emphasis on advising First-Time Freshmen. This position will begin immediately.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: Duties begin with meeting and enrolling incoming freshmen in their first semester using information from transcript(s), student interviews, the Bethany College Catalog, and First-Year Student Enrollment Handbook.
Throughout the students’ first year, the ASA guides advisees through the high school-to-college transition according to the individual needs of each student. This often involves teaching time management, how to access information and services, self-advocating, decision making, choosing a major, and problem solving. The ASA often helps students with personal and academic challenges throughout the year. For freshmen beginning in the fall semester, the ASA enrolls students for the spring semester, guides them through choosing a major, and introduces them to their major advisor.
The responsibilities of Academic Support are also divided between each ASA according to their skillset and needs of the department. These duties include brainstorming strategies to help students maximize their potential, promoting awareness of Academic Support resources, meeting with prospective students, supervising tutors and test proctors, providing for students with academic accommodations, and related duties as assigned. This is a twelve-month position.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; Master's preferred. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Understanding of higher education degree requirements. Positive experience working with college students (advising preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of people, invested in the lives of students. Spanish fluency is a plus.
SALARY: Contingent upon experience. Bethany offers competitive benefits, including retirement.
DEPARTMENT: This position is in the Student Success Center. This office provides academic support for all students at Bethany College, which includes advising, ADA accommodations, tutoring services, and retention tracking.
