Job Description

POSITONS REPORTING TO THIS POSITION:
- Student Workers as approved
PURPOSE;
- This position, under the direction of the Head Coach, independently performs and is responsible for (1) assisting the Head Coach in the coordination of a safe, enthusiastic, growing sports program, (2) coaching, supervision, management, retention, and recruitment of NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) student-athletes, under the guidelines of the college, KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) and NAIA policies and procedures, and (3) working with all staff to provide a quality program and encourage student athletes in both athletic excellence and good sportsmanship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead, support, and prioritize student retention with a positive and nurturing program that is persistent to graduation.
- Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport. Negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be tolerated.
- Assist in formulating the team’s competitive schedule.
- Assist in organizing and training student-athletes for successful and safe competition.
- Keep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, etc. that contribute to professional development and self-improvement.
- Assists in the administration of all phases of a NAIA sports program including recruiting qualified student athletes.
- Adhere to College recruitment scholarship model.
- Adhere to college, KCAC and NAIA policies and procedures.
- Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor as well as any staff or team members associated with the program.
- Cooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions.
- Adhere to all College spending policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the operational sport budget.
- Actively lead fundraising efforts for the sport program, as well as for the Department of Athletics.
- Assist in preparing timely and accurate documents, such as travel expense statements, itineraries, etc.
- Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staff.
- Support the Department of Athletics mission, vision, and values.
- Assist in monitoring and supporting the academic success of student athletes.
- Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the sport program.
- Assist in planning and conducting pre- and post-season conditioning and training programs.
- Assist in planning and leading pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goals.
- Help prepare and manage records for the team.
- Assist in arranging team travel and meals.
- Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times.
- Assist in coordinating visits by recruits and their families.
- Assist in general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program.
- Carry out other related administrative duties as directed by the Head Coach, Dean of Athletics, and Assistant Athletic Director.
- Participate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestions.
- Assist in providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
- Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities

- Bachelor’s degree required.

- Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results-oriented.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with reporting scores and writing game recaps.
- Support in the hiring and training of student staff as needed and assigned.
- Assist with updating the Bethany Athletic website regularly.
- Assist with maintaining Bethany College Athletics social media accounts, and monitor individual sports programs’ accounts.
- Assist with sports information game day coverage as needed and assigned. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with live video stream at home varsity and junior varsity contests, unless unable to due to equipment shortage as a result of scheduling conflicts with multiple events at one time; assist in the hiring, scheduling, and monitoring of student workers to run the streams.
- Assist with stat taking and/or stat spotting.
- Assist with any press box and/or scorer’s table duties as needed, such as clocks, scoreboards, etc.
- Take pictures, or hire student photographers to take pictures, of sporting events, community service and other athletic functions; maintaining photo archives for public and website usage.
- Work with coaches, Dean of Athletics, and Assistant Athletic Director on game day setup and take down; assist with organizing National Anthem singers, band, cheer and dance squads, announcers, tickets, programs, etc.

- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from constituents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must have a clear understanding of the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics in a private, church related liberal arts setting
