Job Description
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

FLSA STATUS:
- Administrative, exempt-level, full-time, 12-month, employment-at-will position
PURPOSE:
- This position, under general supervision, independently performs and is responsible for running a safe, enthusiastic sports program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administration of all phases of an NAIA sports program, including recruiting qualified student-athletes.
- Adhere to the College recruitment scholarship model.
- Lead, support, and prioritize student retention and persistence to graduation.
- Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport. Negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be tolerated.
- Formulate the team’s competitive schedule.
- Organize and train student-athletes for successful and safe competition.
- Participate in clinics, workshops, etc., to stay abreast of current trends and methods and contribute to professional development and self-improvement.
- Adhere to college, KCAC, and NAIA policies and procedures.
- Foster cooperative working relationships with your immediate supervisor and any staff or team members associated with the program.
- Cooperate with other coaches to provide the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions.
- Adhere to all College spending policies and procedures.
- Effectively prepare, spend, and manage the budget and records for the team.
- Actively lead fundraising efforts for the sport program, as well as for the Department of Athletics.
- Prepare timely and accurate documents, such as travel expense statements, itineraries, etc.
- Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staff.
- Support the Department of Athletics mission, vision, and values.
- Monitor and support the academic success of student athletes.
- Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the sport program.
- Plan and conduct pre- and post-season conditioning and training programs.
- Plan and lead pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goals.
- Arrange team travel and meals.
- Approve any stipends to assistant coaches.
- Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area where the sport is conducted at all times.
- Coordinate visits by recruits and their families.
- Prepare an inventory of all equipment at the end of the season.
- General upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program.
- Write an annual report at the end of the season evaluating the program and making recommendations for improvements.
- Carry out other related administrative duties as directed by the Dean of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director.
- Participate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestions.
- Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting improvement of area operations, efficiency, and service to internal and external customers.
Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have knowledge of KCAC and NAIA policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree, Master's preferred.
- A results-oriented candidate with the ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently, who works well independently and fosters a team environment.
- This position rewards a good organizational fit.
- Flexible schedule and travel required.
- Ability to communicate effectively to various audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community at large.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals, but includes exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Work outside involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises—frequent conference-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Work performed indoors is generally with ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
TRAVEL: Travel as required by team schedule, as determined by coaching staff, Dean of Athletics, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
