Description:

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the Wraparound Coordinator while working in full partnership with team members to aid in developing a plan of care which targets youth/families’ needs. The Family Support Specialist implements the plan which has been developed by the Child and Family Team, consisting of the of the youth and family, caseworker, and the Wraparound Coordinator. The focus of the team is to identify service providers of family-based resources, make regular home visits, and monitor all services authorized for the youth and family. The incumbent of this position must demonstrate quality client support and advocacy while assisting with the team’s coordination and facilitation throughout the Wraparound process.

$21.96 per hour

For full-time employees after their first year of employment, one hour of vacation time is earned for every 13 hours paid, with a maximum of 160 hours earned per year,

Family Support Specialist Job Specifics

1. Maintain a service caseload as determined within the specific program plan by:

a) Providing individual youth/family skill- assessment and training.

b) Facilitate Child and Family Team meetings focused on parenting, communication, social skills, and other skill development topics.

c) Providing transportation of clients.

d) Providing written records and service documentation according to agency and regulatory standards.

e) Meeting regularly with the Supervisor to discuss clinical issues, issues surrounding service delivery, and critical issues requiring supervisory consent

f) Demonstrating a capacity and initiative to increase professional skills and knowledge.

g) Maintaining a professional relationship with peers and other service referral resources and providers.

h) Attending meetings related to agency services and/or staff training.

2. Further the mission of the agency by actively participating in the accomplishment of the agency’s strategic plan.

3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The Family Support Specialist must have:

1. At least a high school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) in general education) with two years of related experience.

2. Have the ability to fulfill all of the regulatory requirements for employees of Child Welfare Agencies as are prescribed in Illinois Administrative Rule and Procedure, including successful completion of the criminal background investigation, clearance from the Illinois CANTS and Iowa Registry, and certification as a driver of children by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

3. Maintain a flexible schedule in response to program needs or caseload assignments.

4. Effectively communicate orally and in writing.

5. Be committed to the agency’s vision, mission, philosophy, structure, and goals with an ability to work as part of a treatment team.

6. Have sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the community.

7. Be able to lift 30 lbs.

8. Be able to physically attend to youth, young children, and infants of all ages.
