Job Title: Systems Administrator
Reports to: Academic Dean of Bethany Theological Seminary
Direct Reports: IT Support Specialist
Classification: Salaried, Exempt, Full-time
Location: Richmond, IN campus (non-remote)
Summary of Position:
Ensuring the smooth functioning of technology services at Bethany Theological Seminary in support of the school’s mission. Areas of responsibility include technical expertise as network administrator, project management, MSP management, and the overall user experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the IT department including installation, maintenance, and management of all approved hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment for school systems. Scope includes on-campus servers, endpoints, firewalls, switches, WiFi, backups, cloud services, operational systems (e.g. Learning Management System) for approximately 40 faculty/staff.
- Participate in all IT-related planning and processes in the school, including consulting with departments and making recommendations for changes to IT systems and processes.
- Work with vCIO and vCISO to heighten cybersecurity and address compliance gaps by managing security standards, policies, and services and implementing continuous corrective actions.
- Vendor Management, including Managed Service Provider and other external vendors.
- Coordinate purchasing of hardware, software, and licenses.
- Manage and regularly test backups for servers, systems, databases, and cloud services.
- Provide Tier2 helpdesk support in areas outside of the MSP helpdesk support.
- Manage audiovisual needs for distance learning classes for three tech classrooms and events at Bethany and limited support of classrooms and events at Earlham School of Religion (in adjacent building).
- On-call rotation for support of after-hours classes and events.
Additional Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Vendor Management
· Management of service levels of Managed Service Provider (MSP).
· Manage relationship with Earlham College ITS personnel and services.
· Gather bids and manage external vendors.
· Coordinate purchasing and acquisitions for all hardware, software, and licenses.
Network Administration and Information Systems Management
· Manage firewall, switches, and security tools to protect the confidentially and integrity of the seminary’s data.
· Manage the installation, maintenance, and management of all approved hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment for school systems.
· Consult with various parties, make recommendations for changes to IT systems and processes, and implement changes upon approval by the Dean.
· Plan, oversee, and manage the design, development, and implementation of new applications, information systems, and services.
· Perform administrative duties for school information systems and services, including but not limited to the LMS and CRMs.
· Participate in internal and external security and compliance audits.
· Provide technical assistance to employees utilizing information and data systems.
· Ensure all technical documentation is kept up to date and accurate, including, but not limited to, asset information, warranty contracts, disaster recovery plans, policies, and procedures, etc.
Other
· Communicate proactively with executives and end users including creating user friendly training guides.
· Coordinate technical training opportunities for seminary systems and services.
· Convene and prepare the agenda for IT-related committees as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to work with non-technical user base with patience in friendly and professional manner.
- Has 3 years of technical support experience with Windows, and 1 year with macOS systems and 1 year with Microsoft365.
- Has 3 years of experience managing network infrastructure, including DNS, network protocols, VLAN, security protocols, IP addressing, firewalls, and switches.
- Has 2 years of experience with leading technical project implementations.
· Ability to provide technical support in a variety of methods (face to face, remote, phone, email, videoconference).
· Strong troubleshooting and internet research skills (searching for solutions on Google, forums and knowledge bases) and ability to learn new technologies, systems, and software quickly.
· Security mindset to safeguard confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure including professional discretion.
· Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to explain technical concepts and processes in a simple, nontechnical way.
· Ability to multi-task effectively.
· High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Network certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, ISC2, CompTIA or other relevant certifications.
· Higher Ed or Nonprofit or customer service experience (retail, food service, etc.).
· Ability to create user friendly how-to guides.
· Leadership roles in professional or non-professional organizations.
· Has experience managing Linux (Red Hat/Debian) servers.
· College degree in a technical field.
Physical Demands:
· Sitting/Standing: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Standing and walking required to assist users on-site.
· Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 40 pounds.
· Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling computer components and cables.
· Visual Requirements: Ability to read small text on screens and labels.
· Hearing Requirements: Ability to hear and identify different audio frequencies and sound levels accurately, including microphone feedback.
· Mobility/Bending: Occasional bending, kneeling, and crawling under desks to access equipment. May involve climbing ladders to reach network devices.
