Overview
We are seeking a talented and dedicated Church Organist to join our congregation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for music and a strong commitment to enhancing worship through the art of organ playing. This role is vital in creating an uplifting atmosphere during services, special events, and community gatherings. The Church Organist will collaborate closely with the clergy and music ministry team to select appropriate music that aligns with the church's mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Play the organ during weekly worship services, special events, and seasonal celebrations. (Sundays - 11:30am Service, Thursday evenings Choir Rehearsal)
- Collaborate with the choir director and other musicians to prepare for rehearsals and performances.
- Select hymns, anthems, and other musical pieces that complement the liturgical calendar.
- Provide musical accompaniment for congregational singing, ensuring clarity and engagement.
- Maintain the organ and other musical instruments in good working condition.
- Participate in planning meetings with church leadership to discuss music selections and service themes.
- Attend regular rehearsals with choirs or ensembles as required.
- Be available for weddings, funerals, and other special services as needed.
Requirements
- Proficiency in playing the organ; experience in a church setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of various musical styles, including traditional hymns and contemporary worship music.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with clergy, choir members, and congregants.
- A background in theater is a plus, as it can enhance performance skills during services.
- Ability to read sheet music fluently and adapt arrangements as necessary.
- A commitment to fostering a welcoming environment through music that encourages congregational participation.
- Flexibility to accommodate changes in service schedules or special events.
