What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Life and Community Engagement Minister position at Bethel Baptist Church?
General Purpose:
The Family Life and Community Engagement Minister works with the Pastor to provide spiritual leadership to the families of the children and youth as well as the senior group in the church. Outreach to the Chesterfield and Powhatan families to develop, coordinate, and implement educational, mission, and social opportunities that benefit all age groups within the Bethel congregation and wider Chesterfield and Powhatan communities.
General Responsibilities:
- Coordinates or leads weekly Youth Sunday School.
- Coordinates or leads weekly Children’s Sunday School.
- Coordinates or leads 6 to 8 programs or activities per year for Senior members.
- Coordinates or leads 4 to 6 multi-generational programs.
- Coordinates or leads other programs such as retreats, mission projects, trips, and camps.
- Enlists and motivates volunteers, leaders, and chaperones as needed for activities, meetings, and programs.
- Plans and acquires all supporting materials, supplies and transportation needed for meetings and activities.
- Plans and leads Vacation Bible School.
- Plans and recruits’ leaders for Nursery and Children's Church.
- Provides support for the Sunday School program and works with the Sunday School Director to identify and acquire curriculum, training, and supplies.
- Serve as spiritual support for families, children, youth, volunteers, and helpers.
- Participate in the Leadership Council of the Church.
- Participates in worship service at the request of the Pastor.
- Works with the Pastor to provide Pastoral Care to members of the church and community.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Participates in community activities to connect and support Bethel’s mission to our community.
- In accordance with policy, develops and administers the annual budget for assigned areas.
- Notify the Personnel Chair to conduct background checks on chaperones, volunteers, and helpers.
- Provides written or oral reports at quarterly business meetings or when requested by the Pastor or Personnel Committee.
- Perform all other duties as needed, required, or directed.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bethel Baptist Church.

- Demonstrates a personal relationship with Christ and a desire to share Christ’s message with the families of Bethel Baptist Church.
- Possess communication and relational skills, which allow the Minister to effectively communicate with people across all age ranges.
- Possesses the administrative and technological skills necessary to identify, lead, organize, and develop programs and people.
- Displays passion and optimism. Inspires trust and respect. Possesses skills and desire to recruit helpers and volunteers.
- Has the ability to adapt to changes within the environment as well as to deal with unexpected events.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to act independently. Identifies and pursues
opportunities to achieve the mission and goals of Bethel Baptist Church.
- Has the ability to research and analyze programs and strategies to develop and enhance the mission, programs, and overall effectiveness of Bethel Baptist Church.
- Reflects on successes or failures of programs and strategies employed to drive future success of decisions, strategies, and programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, Theology or Biblical Studies preferred.
- Some experience in Ministry or Seminary is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience working with children, youth and or senior citizens.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
