Overview
Bethel Institute for Community Development’s (BICD) mission is to provide educational and social services to high-risk youth and families in Greater Boston in ways that measurably transform their lives and the communities in which they live. Programming includes a wellness program, a re-entry mentoring to adulthood program and a STEAM program. BICD has served youth in the community for over two decades.
The Bethel Math and Science Scholars Program, (BMSSP) is an intensive, hands-on, experiential summer program targeting youth in grades 4-7 to foster interest in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and related fields. Enrollment for the summer academy is limited to 40 Scholars.
All Bethel Scholars Program staff are required to attend an orientation prior to their start date, meet periodically with the Program Director, and participate in staff development activities. We are seeking persons interested in building on his/her employment experience and gaining transferable skills.
Position Summary: The ideal applicant is a college student or adult with an interest/experience in encouraging, engaging, and supporting youth development and education. Confidentiality on matters of care to children must be maintained at all times for the protection of the children and families being served.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Program Director in the operation and the overall management of the Program.
- Provide assistance in classes with setup and facilitate activities
- Coordinate and distribute meals.
- Supervise children.
- Respond responsibly in cases of emergency.
- Assist with managing the safety of the children on-site and on field trips.
- Work with all staff in the building to provide a quality childcare setting.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience working with grade school student populations or a commitment to supporting this population.
- Ability to communicate with youth ages 8-12 and provide necessary instruction.
- Work effectively with learners who need encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Model and exhibit those behaviors expected of future science, technology, engineering, math, or other professionals.
- Concern for the safety and wellbeing of others.
- Positive attitude and outlook.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
