What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Prevention Coalition position at Bethel School District?
- Collaborates with others for the purpose of sharing expertise and resources, resolving issues, implementing and maintaining services and programming related to the district's mission.
- Convenes meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., coalition convenes, trainings, orientations, and conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying or gathering information, providing technical expertise, maintaining relationships, and/or supporting district operations.
- Coordinates prevention activities (e.g., parent events, key leader orientations, public awareness campaigns, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the implementation of evidence-based prevention programs and other strategies designed to prevent or delay the use and misuse of alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other drugs among youth up to age 18 and young adults ages 19-25.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference for compliance with District, state, and federal regulations and/or grant requirements.
- May oversee the work of other staff for the purpose of ensuring program objectives are met within budget.
- Participates in reporting and monitoring activities (e.g., monthly and quarterly data reporting, visiting sites, conducting observations, writing reports, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and/or grant regulations and requirements, and District policies and procedures.
- Processes documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
- Provides comprehensive training and technical support to district staff, volunteers, prevention contractors, service providers, and community groups on prevention science topics (e.g., risk and protective factors, the Strategic Prevention Framework, relevant evidence-based strategies, etc.) for the purpose of building capacity for community-based, data-driven substance abuse coalition work.
- Recruits, trains, and retains district staff focused on preventing ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug) use and related problems among children and youth in Bethel School District for the purpose of supporting the development and implementation plan involving ethnically and linguistically diverse communities and underserved populations in the coalition and programs.
- Researches a wide variety of topics (e.g., funding options, best practices, grant requirements, etc.) for the purpose of securing new funding and/or providing information and recommendations for program implementation.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from others (e.g., community partners, internal and external partners, school districts, coalition members, etc.) for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Utilizes data collection instruments and monitors program components (e.g. procedures and processes, communications, training needs, data, Requests for Proposal (RFP) process, grants, contracts for services, events, budgets, and expenditures, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

The job of TOSA, Prevention Coalition is done for the purpose(s) of coordinating prevention coalition activities and action plans in support, organization, and maintenance of the Coalition for Drug-Free Youth.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health.
CONDITIONS
May be required to deal with distraught students/parents/staff: may be exposed to infectious diseases. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
Education and Experience
Valid Washington State teaching certificate or valid ESA certificate.
Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate educational endorsement.
Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
Ability to read technical information.
