Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a 20-hour per week Communications Specialist. This position is classified as an Office Coordinator IV.

 

Bilingual candidates and candidates experienced in working with bilingual students and families will receive preferential consideration.

Bethel School District is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Communications Specialist to join our team in a part-time role. This position plays a vital role in effectively communicating with families, students, and the community through various social media and communications platforms. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for managing and enhancing our social media presence, providing technical support to users of our communications platform, ParentSquare, and ensuring that our online communications are clear, engaging, and accessible.

 

This role is focused on highlighting the incredible stories, events, and successes happening in our schools and community, aligning with Bethel’s strategic plan and mission to create relevant, responsive, and joyful learning spaces where all students thrive. Key Responsibilities & Examples of work - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Create regular, relevant written and multimedia content for websites, social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • Share engaging stories, photos, and videos on social media to highlight school events and celebrate achievements, students and staff.
  • Collaborate across teams to produce inclusive and accessible content. Create, shoot, produce and edit a variety of videos.
  • Maintain and update district websites with fresh content, event details, and multimedia communication. Support staff and families in using ParentSquare while enhancing engagement through responsive communication and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure clear communication, support website functionality, and streamline family-facing technology. Assist with events, school promotions, and celebrating Bethel’s successes.
  • Seek out and facilitate promotion and publicity of district and school events, news, and stories.
  • Produce news releases and other media communications as assigned
  • Maintain website content and social media pages as assigned.
  • Plan and produce district publications, coordinating with graphic designers, printers and other contractors as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Training Guidelines - Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Two years of communications, public relations, social media, public affairs or communications experience.
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and videography skills.
  • Social media expertise and a creative approach to engagement.
  • Effective communication, storytelling, and social media skills with a creative approach to engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently and collaboratively, and uphold professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and working with diverse communities.
  • Basic website management skills (training available) and the ability to adapt experience and training as needed.
  • Background and fingerprint checks required.
