General Purpose/Summary Statement
The Staff Accountant I position provides accounting support to the financial team for Bethesda Associates, Bethesda Real Estate, Bethesda Senior Living Communities and LifeStream Complete Senior Living, performing a wide range of general accounting tasks as part of the monthly and annual financial reporting of all Bethesda entities.

Essential Functions

- BRE Accounting Liaison
- BRE Management fee calculation and entry
- Preparation of tenant statements, CAM Reconciliation and various other duties related to real estate
- Property tax accruals
- GO1 Intercompany Rent
- Review of Pre-vouchers in Multiview Workflow
- Prepare bank reconciliations and associated journal entries for multiple accounts
- Verify daily bank deposits
- General Ledger analysis and account reconciliation, including quarterly review of the Trial Balance for various entities
- Maintain fixed asset records for various entities, including additions and deletions
- Maintain prepaid account schedules, preparing monthly expense entries
- Assist during the year-end audit, including preparation of supporting schedules
- Review and approve P-card transactions
- Account Payable Voucher batch review for paid invoices
- Monthly upload of ALIS data into Multiview accounting software, maintaining resident account receivable schedules, and recording allowance for doubtful accounts
- Other various monthly closing activities, template journal entries, interfaces, allocations
- Additional projects and duties as requested by the Controller and CFO

- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Flexible, organized self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Detail-oriented, diligent, and positive under moderately stressful conditions, and able to complete tasks as scheduled.
- Must maintain a current driver’s license and comply with all requirements of Bethesda’s Auto Policy.
Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred, or Associate’s degree in accounting with additional equivalent work experience.
Experience: Preferred candidates will have two to three years of corporate accounting experience. A strong understanding of common accounting challenges and bank reconciliation practices is essential.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
- Working environment is an office setting.
- Position requires ability to lift 10-15 pounds occasionally.
- Work week is 40 hours per week with some flex time available. Need flexibility to increase to approximately 45 hours per week at times, especially between September and January.
