Job Description: Code Blue Shelter Aide
Status: Seasonal, November - April
Hours: Monday through Sunday – 7 days/week
Evenings, Awake Overnight, Weekends Available
4 p.m. – 12 a.m.
12 a.m. – 8 a.m.
Function: Code Blue which provides shelter and food security for homeless adults from November until April. Shelter Aides will assist in the oversight of the shelter facility and shelter guests. Responsible to complete paperwork and to ensure support for personal services and provide a calm atmosphere. This is a temporary, seasonal position approximately 16 to 40 hours per week, shifts vary.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greet and direct all who enter the Code Blue Center for the evening
- Meet with shelter guests to complete the DSS TA application
- Track the shelter guests unwilling to complete a DSS application
- Record all necessary information legibly and accurately in the communication book
- Implement and support house rules
- Oversee the participants to ensure a calm atmosphere
- Address any conflicts that may occur
- Work cohesively with other agency staff
- Complete incident reports
- Monitor restroom activity and check restroom after use to ensure cleanliness
- Ensure shelter is clean and organized before leaving shift
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree preferred with three years’ experience in human services agency
OR
High school degree with five years’ experience in human services agency
- Excellent verbal communications and writing skills to interact with clients, peers and supervisors
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of agencies, programs, and services in the community.
- Experience recognizing and responding to emergencies
- Ability to work in a fast- paced environment
- Must be able to take direction as well as take initiative and work independently
- Ability to provide own transportation
Essential Functions:
- Work full time during normally scheduled hours on a regular basis.
- Work hours above normally scheduled work hours in an emergency to cover shifts
- Must maintain all client confidentiality
- Must effectively handle conflict and/or confrontation in order to reach a resolution satisfactory to all parties.
- Represent the agency in a positive, professional and patient manner to all parties with which she/he comes into contact.
