What are the responsibilities and job description for the Toddler Assistant Teacher position at Bethlehem Intergenerational Center?
Job Summary:
We are seeking a nurturing and dedicated Toddler Assistant Teacher to join our childcare team. This role supports the Lead Teacher in creating a warm, safe, and engaging environment where toddlers can thrive. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood development, excellent communication skills, and a caring demeanor to support the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of toddlers.
Key Responsibilities:
Childcare & Development
- Provide attentive and responsive care to toddlers, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist in implementing age-appropriate activities to encourage developmental milestones (sensory play, language development, music and movement).
- Support feeding, diapering, and naptime.
- Monitor toddlers’ physical and emotional well-being and report any concerns to the Lead Teacher.
- Records and requirements by the Center, DHS, and NAEYC, which includes but not limited to: Medication forms/how to administer medication, accident/incident forms, anecdotal records, communication with parents, and policies.
- Be familiar with and adhere to licensing rules/regulations, health department guidelines, emergency procedures, and NAEYC accreditation standards.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate daily with parents about their child’s progress, milestones, and needs.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other staff to maintain a positive classroom environment.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development training.
- A minimum of 16 hours of training per year in early education and intergenerational development are required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred).
- Experience working with toddlers in a childcare or similar setting is a plus.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and sit on the floor to interact with toddlers.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 35 per week
