General Description / Purpose:
This role will oversee the finance and be a liaison to human resources. The Vice President of Finance is responsible for ensuring information consistency across all reporting functions, in addition to providing the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and leadership team with timely and accurate information. As a direct report, the VP of Finance will be a member of the CEO's leadership team. The position is a full-time, remote role, although some occasional on-site attendance throughout the year is mandatory. We are seeking candidates that reside in the greater Chicagoland (city/suburban) area.

Key Responsibilities
The duties of the VP of Finance & Administration include, but are not limited to:
Finance
- Oversee and provide strategic leadership to all financial matters of BBB Chicago to provide proactive information for planning and decision making.
- Develop annual operating budgets in conjunction with the leadership team and the President and ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines. Regularly monitor budgets and provide information to the staff about performance to budget.
- Maintain consistent reporting on the organization's financial position and outlook and ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee billing and payment application processes for accreditation dues and other revenues utilizing the membership database and/or the general ledger, including monitoring and reporting on collection results.
- Oversee all accounts payable and disbursement processes to ensure payments are accurate, properly supported and approved and properly recorded.
- Act as a primary contact for banking and credit card processing relationships; monitor those relationships for performance and operating or financial efficiencies.
- Act as primary contact for our outside payroll vendor. Oversee and/or perform payroll calculations and entry, including the calculation of sales commissions. Assure that all payroll processes are in compliance with personnel policies and legal requirements.
- Act as the primary contact with outside investment consulting firm monitoring investment and 401(k) plan portfolios.
- Coordinate and respond to any issues from the annual outside audit.
- Coordinate with the outside auditors and prepare information for the Form 990 and required state returns. Assure that the organization remains in compliance with tax and related regulatory requirements.
- Maintain the financial records for BBB Chicago's educational foundation.
- Provide financial and operating information as required for the IAMMM and BBB Performance Group.
- Become sufficiently knowledgeable about Chicago BBB membership database to monitor its informational and financial integrity, and to be able to extract data for management and accounting purposes. This includes supporting/helping lead the initiative to clean up the database.
- Provide regular financial reports to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors and special reporting to them as requested.
- Cultivate a network with BBB peers to ensure shared knowledge of best practices.
Administration
- Assist HR as a liaison with our benefits broker and providers for all benefits offerings, including evaluation of benefits and providers and the enrollment/reporting processes.
- Act as liaison with our 401k provider, including assuring compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Considering local candidates only
- 4-Year college degree required, CPA preferred, MBA a plus
- 7 years related professional experience required
- Possess strong communication (oral and written) skills
- Demonstrated experience overseeing or performing human resource functions in small organizations
- QuickBooks proficient
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Self-starter and be able to handle multiple tasks and priorities
- Must be a creative thinker, open-minded and a team player who is flexible and adaptable to change
- Experience building relationships at senior levels within your organization
- Technical savvy sufficient to be the onsite set of hands for outsourced IT vendor and to operate effectively within membership database
Salary & Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $180,000 compensation range is dependent on geographic location, and it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role. Individual salaries within each range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills. The Better Business Bureau reviews compensation regularly and may adjust base salaries to reflect market competitiveness. In addition to salary, individuals may be eligible for a discretionary performance bonus.
