We are seeking Forest Hosts, blending hospitality, nature stewardship, and event facilitation. This is an ideal role for someone who loves the outdoors, enjoys working with people, and finds fulfillment in creating meaningful experiences.
About the Role
As a Forest Host, you’ll help create beautiful, lasting memories in nature while playing a key role in conservation and community. You will facilitate guided visits, assist with memorial services, and help maintain the natural beauty of the forest. You will be a comforting presence, ensuring families feel supported as they honor their loved ones.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Engagement & Tours:
- Lead guided visits for families, prospective customers, and guests.
- Share information about the forest, memorial options, and conservation efforts.
- Provide a warm, informative, and welcoming experience for all visitors.
Forest Memorials:
- Serve as the primary host and facilitator for ash-spreading ceremonies (training provided).
- Provide compassionate support while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
- Ensure all memorial events are smoothly coordinated and meaningful for families.
Forest Stewardship & Site Maintenance:
- Perform light trail maintenance, signage checks, and general site upkeep.
- Monitor forest conditions and report hazards or maintenance needs.
- Ensure the forest remains clean, safe, and well-maintained for visitors.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who:
- Loves nature and is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Has strong interpersonal skills and can confidently lead tours and memorials.
- Is detail-oriented and organized, capable of managing events and logistics.
- Is compassionate and comfortable interacting with grieving families.
- Is self-sufficient, reliable, and able to work independently, while also collaborating with site teams.
- Can handle the physical demands of the role, including walking on uneven terrain, lifting up to 30 lbs, and standing for extended periods.
Requirements:
- First Aid/CPR certification (required).
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to take the free ROHVA course (to drive guests in an off-road vehicle).
- California applicants: Must qualify for and obtain a Cremated Remains Disposer (CRD) license (application fee reimbursed by Better Place Forests).
- Experience in End-of-Life Services: Prior experience in end-of-life care, such as a Death Doula, Celebrant, or working in a Funeral Home. (Preferred)
Details
- Flexible Schedule: Work as needed, with peak demand from May–October. Weekend availability is required.
- Compensation: Paid Hourly rate for assigned work.
- Equipment & Supplies: Must provide personal work gear (hiking boots, rain gear, etc.), while the company supplies materials for tours/memorials.
