About the role
As a Senior Compensation Manager reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will drive the development of scalable, sustainable and equitable compensation and equity programs to attract and retain top talent. You will play a critical role in shaping our compensation philosophy and ensuring alignment with industry best practices, internal equity, and market competitiveness. The ideal candidate is analytical, process and detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, high impact culture that values clear communication and efficient execution.
This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
- New York City : $160,000 - $185,000

A day in the life
Analyze data for compensation programs, including salary, incentives and equity awards that align with the company’s objectives for recruiting, retention, and employee engagementParticipate in compensation surveys, conduct research and analysis on market competitiveness, and compensation trendsConduct benchmarking analysis to develop job families and compensation packages to maintain the job architecture and support the strategic growth of the business, as neededSupport in operational areas of compensation including, but not limited to, compensation planning cycles, system administration and testing, job leveling, salary structures support, federal, state and local wage compliance reporting, reconciliation, and other compensation analyticsBuild and maintain a competitive equity compensation strategy that motivates performance, is fiscally responsible, and supports the attraction and retention of high-performing talentSupport the equity program and process, including ad-hoc analysis, contribute to projects related to equity and prepare equity grant schedules for the Board of Director’s Compensation CommitteeProvide accurate and complete reporting to record the monthly stock-based compensation expense and ensure that all equity-related internal controls are operating effectivelyPrepare reports and presentations to key executives and the Board of Directors on compensation trends, program effectiveness, and strategic recommendationsWork closely with HR business partners, Recruiting, Finance, and other teams to ensure alignment and integration of compensation programsCollaborate on and help guide communication strategies to effectively convey compensation programs and changes to employeesWhat we’re looking for
7 years of demonstrated expertise in compensation and equity management, with a proven track record of designing and implementing successful compensation programsExperience in market analysis and external benchmarking for a range of positions from non-exempt to senior executive levelsExperience in equity compensation structures, including RSUs and stock optionsProficiency with HRIS, compensation, and stock plan admin tools, such as ADP, Pave, and CartaAdvanced analytical skills, with the ability to manipulate and interpret large and complex data sets, and translate them into actionable insights and recommendationsWhat being at Betterment means for you
