Essential duties and responsibilities
Summary. The Cultivation Associate (CA) performs tasks and processes within the Cultivation department to fulfill Production business plans for the cultivation for sale of cannabis and related products in Massachusetts. The CA may perform plant-care activities as assigned at all stages of the plant lifecycle: propagation, vegetation, flower, post-harvest.
The CA reports to the Cultivation Lead, and works with Cultivation team members and leadership to perform daily and scheduled plant care and production tasks, including the compliant movement (physical and virtual) of plants using recordkeeping systems. The CA follows company policies and procedures, especially at critical control points such as transfers, harvest and waste-processing, and exhibits compliant professional conduct in all instances.
CA operates tools, equipment, hardware, software and other systems related to commercial cannabis cultivation and production. CA supports Cultivation leadership to audit and track inventory, supplies and materials, in compliance with state and other requirements. CA completes all training related to Cultivation activities and Production facility conduct, in order to safely and effectively perform job tasks.
The CA is a licensed Agent of BeWell’s state-issued cannabis license, in compliance with Cannabis Control Commission and all related federal, state and local regulations. The CA follows the company’s reporting structures and policies to ensure standardized recordkeeping, and maintain regular, transparent communication within the Cultivation department.
According to schedules and plans developed by the Production and Cultivation Directors, and supervised by the Cultivation lead, CA uses tools and equipment provided by the company and performs tasks related to:
- Sanitization and decontamination of cultivation areas, materials, equipment and inputs
- Propagation of clones from mother plants
- Fertigation and irrigation
- Sanitization and decontamination of cultivation areas, materials, equipment and inputs
- Vegetating plant care including integrated pest management (IPM)
- Flowering plant care including IPM
- Harvesting, drying and curing product for further processing
- Recordkeeping
Physical requirements
- Ability to perform physical labor for an eight-hour shift
- Regular and repetitive bending, reaching, grasping and squatting to access plants
- Ability to lift at least 65 pounds with or without assistance
- Ability to use tools such as pruners, shears, scales and others that require fine motor skills; repetitive use of hands for all functions
- Ability to work in a high-temperature and -humidity environment for extended periods with exposure todust, allergens and water
- Ability to work on a team in occasional close physical proximity when tasks require multiple Agents tofulfill operational or compliance requirements
Skills and qualifications
- Experience performing cannabis cultivation activities, especially plant care and production planfulfillment in Massachusetts markets
- Tool/equipment, hardware, software and application skills including use and maintenance of cultivationsystems
- Ability to triage issues for resolution, especially those related to building, production and cultivationsystems
- Problem-solving skills especially related to plant health and environment control
- Experience working in commercial agriculture, consumer goods manufacturing, or other highly regulatedenvironments, e.g., compliance with local, state and federal requirements including but not limited toMassachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, OSHA, City of Lowell, ServSafe
- Organized and detail-oriented, and able to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and precision
- Minimum age 21 years
- Ability to pass all required background checks and complete all required training, including but notlimited to: Responsible Vendor Training (RVT), General and Production Department company policiesand procedures
- Communication skills (written and oral) to professionally, cooperatively and clearly express ideas,concerns and any issues that may arise on the job.
