What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronic Technician I position at Bexar County?
Under direct supervision, assists in repairing and maintaining electronics security systems inside and outside County buildings; installing computer workstations; troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems; and performs other duties as required.
- Repairs electro-mechanical door locks for jail cells
- Repairs cell control modules, control panels and electronic wiring
- Maintains and repairs pneumatically controlled jail cell doors
- Repairs and/or replaces electronic surveillance equipment such as television cameras, coaxial cable and monitors
- Installs and/or relocates computer workstations, terminals, monitors and printers
- Troubleshoots and repairs computer hardware such as mainframe terminals, peripherals and computer workstations
- Assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting the operation and maintenance of Audio/Visual equipment and broadcast equipment
- May perform other maintenance duties as assigned
- Maintains and repairs emergency uninterruptible power supply
- Maintains and repairs various types of audio equipment such as microphones, speakers and amplifiers
- Performs other duties as required
- Graduation from an accredited technical or vocational school in field of electronics, and two (2) years' experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic security systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of the principles of basic electronics; knowledge of pneumatics and electro-mechanical systems; knowledge of AC and DC circuitry; knowledge of safety standards and practices; knowledge of electronic surveillance equipment
- Skill in the operation of various hand tools and electronic testing equipment; skill in repairing and replacing electro-mechanical locking systems; skill in the repair of electronic surveillance equipment
- Ability to utilize amp meters, circuit analysis devices and other computer diagnostic equipment; ability to read and understand schematics and other technical diagrams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, appointed and elected officials, and outside organizations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Must be able and willing to attend training at department's discretion
- May be assigned to any or various county facilities
- Required to be on-call 24-hours a day
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
- When required, shall work extra hours, holidays, weekends and other shifts
- Required to work rotating shift
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Working conditions are primarily indoors with occasional outdoor exposure
- Required to work in jail environment
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as damp/wet surfaces, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, occasionally moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves about buildings
- Constantly positions self to perform essential functions
- Constantly operates tools and equipment
