What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Clerk position at Bexar County?
Under direct supervision, is responsible for answering Tax Office questions from the general public; updates mailing addresses; mails forms and tax receipts; forwards returned mail, files change of address cards and undeliverable tax statements; prepares estimated tax calculations; researches requests; notifies customers of process delays or denials; routes specialized license plates; and performs related duties as required.
- Answers routine questions over the telephone concerning auto, property tax and other Tax Office related inquiries
- Updates mailing addresses into computer and verifies information with government agencies such as Bexar Appraisal District
- Types forms and tax receipts and mails to requesting individuals
- Files change of address cards and undeliverable tax statements
- Prepares estimated calculations pertaining to auto and property tax
- Researches requests such as ownership of property
- Notifies customers by mail or phone of delays or denials
- Routes specialized license plates to appropriate Tax Office substation
- May assist with re-calculating refunds to determine accuracy
- Performs other duties as required
- High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and one (1) year office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of basic office procedures; knowledge of basic telephone etiquette
- Skill in communicating with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy
- Ability to operate a personal computer, typewriter, 10-key adding machine, telephone and basic office equipment; ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees, outside organizations and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Must be able to maintain an effective attendance record/pattern
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are inside an office environment
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 10-20 lbs. occasionally
- Occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard, 10-key adding machine, and basic office equipment. Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending to perform the essential functions
