Under general supervision, is responsible for providing research and administrative assistance to division attorneys; drafts legal documents and correspondence; files case documents promptly; maintains reporting statistics, and performs related duties as required
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Processes driving while intoxicated (DWI), felony, and vehicle/property forfeiture filesPrepares cases for the docket to include issuing subpoenas, obtaining restitution amounts, compiling petitions and reports, and collecting other case informationAssists attorneys with current case law research and case preparationRequests investigative searches for prior convictions, vehicle registration, bankruptcies, and current addressesDrafts legal documents and other correspondence such as probable cause paragraphs for at-large/re-filed cases and synopsis for Grand Jury presentationsMaintains division statistics involving caseload informationMaintains calendar for case settings and hearings and notifies law enforcement personnel of trial datesProvides case status information to judges, law enforcement agencies, victims, bail bondsmen, and opposing attorneysMaintains attorneys’ schedules and communicates with opposing counsel and staff regarding deadlines and scheduling litigation events. Organizes and coordinates complex discovery. Maintains comprehensive understanding of the status of discovery in all assigned cases. Creates and organizes physical and electronic files of written discovery, deposition transcripts, and audio/visual media. Can readily research and pull items upon request. Communicates with County employees regarding litigation or administrative matters. Drafts basic litigation documents such as notices of appearance, deposition notices, and simple advisories to the court. Assists in all phases of trial and hearing preparation, including setting/attending hearings, depositions, meetings, ordering records, preparing and coordinating service of subpoenas, organizing trial notebooks and exhibits and preparing witnesses for trial.Maintains a working knowledge of litigation technology including trial presentation software and e-discovery.Performs duties in compliance with applicable ethics, security and safety rules, regulations and standards. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive or protected information.Performs related duties as required
