What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sewing Sample Maker and Design Assistant position at Beyond Clothing?
What you’ll do:
As a Sample Maker, you’ll play a critical role in bringing our designs to life. Working closely with our design and development teams, you’ll craft highly technical garments and accessories, ensuring every stitch meets our exacting standards. This role is more than just sewing—it’s about problem-solving, refining construction techniques, and helping push the limits of what’s possible in performance apparel.
- Construct complex technical garments from start to finish.
- Interpret patterns, identify discrepancies, and collaborate with designers and pattern makers to refine prototypes.
- Assist with pattern cutting and fabric preparation to streamline the sample-making process.
- Troubleshoot construction challenges, proposing solutions to improve fit, function, and durability.
- Support the development team by kitting trims and materials.
- Perform alterations and repairs, from patching holes to replacing zippers.
- Maintain sewing machines and other tools, ensuring everything is in top working condition.
- Operate specialized equipment such as embroidery machines, laser cutters, heat presses, and automated cutting tables.
- Help organize and maintain swatch libraries and sample trim bins.
- Assist in prototype measuring, wash testing, and seam tape testing.
What you bring:
- 3-5 years of experience as a sample maker or equivalent technical sewing experience.
- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines, including:
- Single needle
- Double Needle
- Flatlock
- Overlock – 3, 4 and 5 thread
- Buttonhole
- Button
- Bartack
- Coverstitch
- Seam tape machine – willing to get certified if not already
- Strong pattern-reading skills, including an understanding of drill holes, notches, sizing, and technical specs.
- Ability to measure garments accurately and troubleshoot fit and construction issues.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English, including understanding technical packages and bills of materials.
- Some knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook is a plus, but not required.

Pay Range: $60,000 - $70,000 plus bonus
