Home to a thriving community of over 2 million people, Beyond Type 1 offers resources, education, and connection for individuals living with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. We drive impactful initiatives like GetInsulin.org to help people access affordable insulin, and content campaigns such as “Sex, Pumps & CGMs” and “Your Type 1 Guide to Music Festivals.” We aim to build a supportive and empowering community while driving systemic change through elevating the lived experience of the diabetes community through dynamic community education campaigns, advocacy, and innovative partnerships.

As we expand internationally, Beyond Type 1 is focused on transforming diabetes care by addressing systemic barriers to access, amplifying the voices of those living with diabetes, and ensuring equitable access to life-saving resources and technologies.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Social Impact Director, Global Advocacy to spearhead our international advocacy and health equity initiatives. This position will play a central role in driving global awareness and mobilizing advocates to drive policy change to support improved diabetes care, with a particular focus on Lower Middle Income Countries (LMICs). The role will involve strategic program interventions, social impact investing, cultivating international partnerships, and launching key advocacy campaigns that resonate with diverse global audiences.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in managing and executing international awareness campaigns, driving policy change in global markets, and working with global agencies and contractors to achieve strategic objectives. In this role, you will collaborate closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that Beyond Type 1’s mission is reflected in global health policy discussions. Reports to : SVP of Social Impact & Global Advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advocacy and Policy Leadership

Lead the development and execution of global advocacy and policy strategies aligned with Beyond Type 1’s mission and health equity goals.

  • Identify key advocacy opportunities and risks, and create impactful campaigns to influence policy and increase global awareness of diabetes-related issues.
  • Work with governments, international health organizations, and global policymakers to drive positive changes in the treatment and care of diabetes globally, including insulin access and the integration of innovative diabetes technologies in LMICs.
  • Monitor and analyze global healthcare trends, regulations, and legislation to identify new advocacy opportunities.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Coalitions
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships with global advocacy networks, health organizations, and governments to support advocacy and policy goals.

  • Represent Beyond Type 1 at international forums, coalitions, and conferences to advance global advocacy efforts.
  • Work closely with patient advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, and nonprofits to advocate for equitable diabetes care globally.
  • Global Campaign Leadership
  • Launch and execute impactful awareness campaigns in international markets, addressing critical issues such as diabetes warning signs and stigma.

  • Lead the development of international media campaigns and digital strategies to raise awareness and drive engagement in diverse regions.
  • Oversee the identification and management of global agencies and contractors for campaign delivery, ensuring campaigns meet objectives and stay within budget.
  • Provide advocacy-related content development support, including crafting messaging, policy papers, and campaign materials tailored to global audiences.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Communications, Programs, and Marketing teams to ensure cohesive global advocacy messaging and content delivery across all channels.

  • Integrate advocacy strategies into other Beyond Type 1 initiatives to amplify impact across various programs.
  • Health Equity & Global Reach
  • Drive Beyond Type 1’s health equity initiatives globally, particularly expanding BT1’s Beyond Barriers and Innovation Grants implementation amongst LMICs focusing on reducing barriers to care for underserved populations.

  • Lead efforts to expand Beyond Type 1’s advocacy footprint in LMICs and other priority regions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of global advocacy initiatives and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in advocacy, public policy, or global health, with a proven track record of successful advocacy campaigns in international markets. Experience in global health policy and the diabetes care landscape is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to launch and manage international awareness campaigns, including engaging with agencies, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of global healthcare systems, particularly in LMICs, and the policy landscape related to diabetes care.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messaging for diverse, international audiences.
  • Experience in managing international campaigns and partnerships, including the identification and oversight of global agencies and contractors.
  • Passionate about driving systemic change in healthcare, with a commitment to advancing health equity and global diabetes care.
  • While this is a remote position, candidates should be based in the US with the ability to travel internationally if required.
  • Additional Desired Skills :

  • Familiarity with global media landscapes and digital strategies to amplify advocacy efforts.
  • Experience supporting or writing advocacy copy for international markets, including policy papers, advocacy toolkits, and campaign materials.
  • Expertise in creating cross-cultural, multilingual, or region-specific content for diverse global communities.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple international campaigns simultaneously.
  • Proven leadership in engaging cross-functional teams and aligning organizational goals with global advocacy efforts.
  • Accountability :

  • Lead efforts to expand Beyond Type 1’s impact in key international markets and contribute to UN SDG 3.4 goals.
  • Coordinate global advocacy efforts with regional and national stakeholders, ensuring alignment on key strategies and initiatives.
  • Oversee legislative and policy strategies to drive change in global health systems.
  • Lead the execution of Impact Investing in priority international markets.
  • Support foundation and corporate partner cultivation for international advocacy priorities.
  • Salary : This position's salary is dependent on experience with a range of $120K - 150K.
